It’s That Time of Year

christmas-balls I was at the market yesterday and spotted it. It instantly give me a warm, fuzzy feeling to know that it’s there.

For all I know, it’s been there for a month. But now, NOW that Halloween is over, I can say it – IT’S THE HOLIDAYS!

I LOVE EGGNOG!

Even though I’m completely and utterly dairy intolerant, it doesn’t stop me from buying it.  It doesn’t stop me from sipping it.  It’s the most awesome of holiday drinks.  You can have it at breakfast, lunch or dinner.  You can have it with or without a little “kick” in it.  You can have it in your coffee!! Weeee!

I’ve never been real successful at making my own eggnog – and now with the added annoyance of  the whole DAIRY thing, it’s just not been a high priority to figure it out with soy milk & whatnot.  I prefer to just buy it from the store and then add my own little dashes of fun.

But even if it IS store-bought, there are lots of ways to make it special – starting with the way you serve it.  I usually use our special holiday wine glasses, with their festive little theme on them.  I fill the glass up about half way (or less, depending on which kid it’s for).  Then I grate some fresh nutmeg on top, and then add just a small spritz of whipped cream.  Just enough to make it look pretty, without it being a dessert.

For the adults, I might add a little something extra, but typically, it’s just me & the eggnog.

And that’s alright with me!
